oo, oo, thought of another reason...you cannot come to the USA just because you've bought a holiday home here 
(well you can, but only for 90 days at a time!)

How about... you cannot live in the USA just because you came over on the VWP / J1 / B1 / met someone and/or got married, and now youre in the country and they probably wont notice / wont find you.....

You can not come to the USA just because you bought a ticket. If you turn up at the airport (etc) you may be turned away, even if you do have a Visa, a Visa Waiver or all the right docs in place.

Actually, there are ways of overstaying on the VWP and then legalizing your status. It's a long, hard route, and involves spending a lot of time in the US without being allowed to leave, but it can be done.
