Why do so many European born USC vote for the Democrats?

But I haven’t really heard from anyone who left Europe for political reasons AND votes for the Democrats. If that is you, I am really interested in your reasoning. If you like national healthcare, government regulation of the free market, etc., and doesn’t mind paying high taxes, why did you leave Europe. It is all there. It is a sincere question.
Again my questions is for European born USC who left Europe for political reasons AND vote for the Democrats.

You are really making a mountain out of a molehill, Europe/US - still all capitalist, "free" societies. There just isn't a big enough gap to make a person move.

In all honesty I can't imagine many Brits leaving the country for political reasons would come to the US.

Who does that? Honestly? The reason you haven't heard is because this is a Brit Expats forum, not Asylum Seekers weekly. You would probably get more response on Iranian/Iraqi/Somali Expats.Com

As to who does that, there are some who do. You have US born USC who talked about moving to Canada b/c they don’t like the current administration (although I wonder how many actually did). And you have people like me, who moved to the US for political reasons (I had it with the high level of taxation, nanny state, etc.).

I am not talking about refugees as the title of my e-mail “European born USC” should make clear.

I left Europe, moved to the US and became a USC, b/c I couldn’t stand the creeping socialism, government run national healthcare, high taxes and nanny state anymore.
Now, the US is not as capitalistic as I wish it would be, but it is a significant improvement to Europe.
You are either a windup, or a total dickhead. Which one is it?

I can't imagine leaving England because of the politics of the place, after all you are more likely to get a diametric change there every general election than would ever happen here.

I'm with #1 here. It's bad form to start a thread, only to abandon it to begin another. You should engage in a dialog with those who replied on the other thread, rather than posing questions and fleeing the scene.
That being said, anyone who is left-of-center who would leave Europe in the hope of finding a more liberal political climate in the US would either be an idiot, or else would be limiting themselves to a few select places such as Santa Cruz or Berkeley. One who would move to the US from Europe for political reasons would almost certainly be a conservative, by definition.

Are you confusing Political Reasons with Material Advancement? Most move here for the latter.

Gordon Brown will turn out to be a Prime Minister who never actually won an election. He achieved the position by default and will lose it at the hands of the British electorate come next General Election, which has to be held before June 2010 at the very latest. He will play for time but time will run out for him. Everthing he touches seems to crumble to dust in his paws. Even the Pope outshone him in America. Every American knew the Pope was on their soil. Very few knew that Gordon Brown was there, too, and a BBC TV crew out interviewing on the streets of New York City asked people in the streets if they knew who the guy in the photo they showed them was, and only one guy knew he was the UK Prime Minister. The rest didn't have a clue who he was.

Politics had NO influence on my decision, and I suspect 99.999% of others on the board, for one simple reason.... not being a USC means no vote, so it is irrelevant. Ok in 5-7 years you might take the oath. There are 2 things I don't discuss with colleagues and even most friends, this is one and god choices (or not) is the other.

I'm not an anti-capitalist, far from it.....however I cannot stand people that are against having a health service that doesnt discriminate on the grounds of affordability. When I was in the UK, I considered it a priviledge that a portion of my tax money went towards helping all people. The health situation here is sickening.
