We could send them truck loads if they want...via the witness relocation program obviously.

We could cede from the Union but I think our official language would rapidly become Spanish. No, I think the best thing would be to surgically remove the Orlando Metro area and cast it adrift in the Atlantic...just means we'd have another big fresh water lake togo with Okeechobee.

I heard somewhere that Florida gets 41,000,000 visitors per year.
Yes, we were one of those masses a year and a half ago. Bribed hubby that we should take a holiday before we began our new life in Hell USA. DisneyWorld was the best I could think of where we could take our 2.5 year old, at the time.

So I wanna go - get out of this place and start a life in the USA. I am trying to figure out:

Am I eligible?
How much money do I really need?
Do I get a visa first?
Or do I just go through immigration processes using a lawyer?
How quickly will I have a house bought?
Will the dogs get over there okay?
Why can't I get an answer from four corners?

And then the biggest blow of all - can I actually get a job in my field of expertise - having a degree and soon an MA in the cultural sector (who wants that?)

My partner should have no trouble...IT expertise...although...

Constructive thoughts welcome.
You could try for the J1 or H3 visas as a long shot perhaps??? J1 is already listed on one of the other posts - primarily an exchange visitor visa - but also used for students or trainees. H3 is also a trainee visa. I came over on a J1 (maximum length 18 months) visa... not easy to get a job from the other side of the Atlantic tho... you have to get a sponsor (CIEE or BUNAC) - Professional Career Training I think is what they (CIEE) are still calling it these days - you can do that up to age 40. But like I say it only buys you 18 months. There is a new procedure called PERM now that is a faster route to an employment based green card.... but the procedures for the US employer to comply with are a pain in the arse - but if you were already in a job on perhaps one of the trainee visas it could be a way in if you were really determined.

If you are interested check out http://www.councilexchanges.org/partners/ - look up Professional Career Training for info.

Just a general announcement on the theme of getting to the US --

Out here in WA there aren't enough local IT people to fill all the new computing jobs that are being created, and so companies (including Microsoft) are starting for the first time in 5 years to advertise for people to come out here on H1 visas.

Here's one from Jobserve.co.uk, I'm sure more will follow....

Wish it had been that easy for me!!

Good hunting!
