I also tried and was told that my request could not be completed, but to call this toll free number to talk to someone. at 800-829-1040 to order a transcript.
One would suggest that you would get the answer you seek by doing the same

Just curious, what, if any, is the difference between the tax return that you filed, and a tax "transcript"? Is it a statement from the IRS that you paid your taxes?

From this site: http://www.irs.gov/individuals/artic...110571,00.html
"A tax return transcript shows most line items from your tax return (Form 1040, 1040A or 1040EZ) as it was originally filed, including any accompanying forms and schedules. It does not reflect any changes you, your representative or the IRS made after the return was filed. In many cases, a return transcript will meet the requirements of lending institutions such as those offering mortgages and for applying for student loans."
Tax transcripts can also be used as part of an application for citizenship based on marriage to a US citizen, showing an ongoing marital relationship.
