What's on your holiday menu
As stated; what will you be serving...for odd items perhaps a recipe?
For Cathy, Paul, me and a couple of friends it will be a roast turkey, baked spiral sliced ham, turkey dressing, mashed taters (with philly cream cheese and sour cream), corn, beans, cranberry and citrus desert and pumpkin and pecan pie...I know, not very original.
Over to you!

Re: What's on your holiday menu
I will be "penguin in the kitchen mode" over Wednesday and Thursday this week!
I don't bother with starters. Just means more washing up and less room for the entrees and dessert!
I'm picking up my turkey tomorrow. It's a heritage breed bird and was slaughtered less than 10 days ago. I'm going to a local farmers market to get it off the farmer. I'm excited about this bird 'cos it's not been mucked around with so it exercised, ran around a lot and was injected with hormones and antibiotics. Just in case this particular turkey's not to my diners's liking, I picked up a Honeybaked Ham this morning.
Sides are:
balsamic sweet potatoes (no marshmallows allowed to make an appearance here)
green beans tossed in olive oil and sprinkled with lemon peel
cauliflower
bread rolls from the legendary Gulghupf bakery (local bakery in the European mode. No corn syrup in any of the baked goods here!)
plus:
homemade cranberry sauce
homemade gravy (British style, i.e. brown, not white)
Desserts: my spouse is supposed to make a pecan pie
my sis-in-law's offered to make a pumpkin pie
Things should go fine unless I the power goes out!

Funny but I'm not British but never had white gravy in my life. My chicken and turkey gravy is dark but not brown like beef gravy. The white gravy, I believe, is Southern not typical Yankee gravy. And never had bread with corn syrup in it either.

Are you quite sure about the bread? Have you read the labels of many US grocery store bread?
Corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup feature in the ingredients list of many popular breads. That's where the calories lie.
British breads rarely contain corn syrup. Maybe sucrose (cane sugar)...

Re: What's on your holiday menu
Hubby has suggested roast lamb, so that's what we're having, with all the good stuff that goes with a decent roast.
It's a treat for him as I rarely ever do roasts and my mum spoiled him when she was over - I'm surprised he's not asked for roasts more often since she's been gone!
We're not big sweet stuff eaters - I made a pumpkin pie recently and most of it went to waste, we had one piece each - so, it'll probably be ice cream to follow, should we have any room left...
