When I see people eating their pancakes with their sausages etc, it makes me want to yak, he thinks it's hill-hairy-arse! I eat my sweet stuff after my savoury, the way it should be, like it's 2 courses!!!
Thank you!! Exactly the same here - i hate apple sauce with pork, and cranberry with turkey.. its just wrong!!

I roast the sweet potatoes as well, they're very good that way...
Most disgusting thing I've seen is a jello salad(my husbands grandma made it for a cook-out) wild strawberry jello made with boiled crushed pineapple, cooled, then a container of cottage cheese and a container of Cool Whip mixed in as well .....I feel sick just thinking about it!....my husband won't eat it anymore because he had me make it to take to a potluck thing at his Air Guard unit, and someone told him it looked like vomit!!!!! Bless the guy !! lol....he was absolutely right!!.......Sophia

The next weird thing I saw I had to take a picture of it so people back in England would believe it. It was at a super market near New Orleans, and it was a jar of pickled pigs lips.

Needless to say I am packing as many pot noodles with me when I head off to MS.
I don't know what's so odd about the turkey necks- I have often seen them in stores in the north and south- they are great for making soup/broth...either smoked as I usually see them here, or fresh like up north. My wife will use them, or smoked (or unsmoked) pork neckbones, pigs feet or an occasional ear in a pot of soup (they get thrown out after making the broth) or Cocido/Olla Podrida/Fabada.

In Spain I would often see chickes feet for sale also...for soup or the cats I understand. As to pickled pigs lips, I've never seen them, only pickled pig's feet...which always reminf me of what an abortion must look like. To me anything pickled like that- especially if pickled with beets )beet pickled eggs etc) are non-consumable.

While in Spain years ago, I refused to eat Squid of Octopus for several years, finally breaking down and having some "Calamar Bravo" (fried squid rings w/mayo and Louisiana hot sauce)...delicious...and something we still eat every few weeks. Same for Octopus- very good when properly prepared.

hmm.. just read through this thing.. its amazing what you do during those quiet moments at work.....anyways

sweet potatoes are DEFINITELY sweet enough... just mash up please... leave the other 5,000 calories in the cupboard.

sugar is NOT a condiment.

deserts definitely need a clean plate WITH a fork.

syrup does NOT complement meat. period :-P

bread should not please the children with its sugar content.

cheese should melt when warm and should always be older than 3 days (damn lactose intolerance)

pizza bases do NOT need sugar to keep them crispy.

chips are fat, best greasy, and do NOT come frozen, nor should survive 3months intact.

guacamole is not a pureed substance, does NOT contain sugar and should NOT survive more than a few hours... damn that pre-packed stuff is nasty

an apple that remains looking like an apple for 3months... is NOT an apple (and it scares me a little)

Better get used to the brown paper bag experience. Drive all the way to a little shack at the edge of town, a place where nobody knows your name, and buy your Devil's Brew in a brown paper bag...

Oh - better get used to Iced Tea...

Im sure everyone knows your name there Elvira, I bet you are a regular

I have actualy found a wine/liquor store in Cordova, TN that does not have:

Bars on the window
Staff behind bulletproof glass
Only 2 customers at a time policy.

Its the nearest I have found to a British style odd bins.

You know its bad when the XXX shops have a friendlier look to them from the outside than the off license.

Squid is lovely...but weirdly enough, don't see it here all that much at the fish places, calamari now and again, but for a seaside place, always thought that was weird...also don't see any octopus, but that's okay, I never really liked octopus, thought it was tough in comparison....but my mother loves it...

maple syrup, the proper stuff fresh from the trees at least, that's actually quite nice to add to a bit of pork for a roast, or some ribs with bbq....not lashings of the stuff, and definitely not that fake stuff...

(sigh)

Couldn't agree more...

Luckily Mississippi was only a brief interlude in my US experience. These days I hang my hat where the nuts and flakes hang out...

You have no idea how hard my partner and her family tried to get me to like iced tea. I told them I think it's illegal for British people to drink tea in any other form than with hot water, they didn't buy it.

Over time I may get used to it, but for now I'll stick to buckets of pepsi from gas stations.

I think your SOL. Drinking Iced Tea is almost a residency requirment for southern states.

After 3 years, I have gotten to where I can drink it when the weather is hot, but when it turns cold I go straight for the kettle.
