Re: What are your plans for Thanksgiving Day?
For the first three Thanksgivings we were here, ourselves, son and daughter-in-law, grandson, daughter-in-laws mum, dad, sister and her husband and grandmother rented a house for the week at Lincoln City. Had to be Lincoln City so they could go to the casino. It was also a tradition that us and her parents footed the whole bill.
As I had huge medical bills this year I said if they all wanted to go everyone paid their share so low and behold we are having Thanksgiving at home. Wife and I, her brother who I go to Beaver football games with and his girlfriend, and a niece and her husband who live in Portland. It will be a small family get together and be about 1500 bucks cheaper than previous years. It will also be the start of a new family tradition.

I'll be in Lincoln City, I'll give it your regards.....

Re: What are your plans for Thanksgiving Day?
We slog to the grandmothers the night before, this year might kill us as it's going to be poo out on the roads and we can't go sooner as we're waiting to pick the car up.
Anyway, TGD, everyone else wakes up to watch the parade, I finally get to sleep in some quiet as there's no longer surround sound earth shattering snoring.
After breakfast, FIL, BIL and myself go outside and put up the x-mas decorations for the grandmother, then we move log stumps to the next wood pile, move the split wood into the garage to replenish the supplies, clear the leaves off the roof, steps and driveway, put up winter grips on the steps for the old dear..
At this point, usually, aunt with annoying husband conveniently arrive...so the rest of us start to drink.
Do food and the missus and I head back home, everyone else chills out and gets ready for the sales.

We are going over the mountains to the coast, to feast with our friends there. My friend K's favorite thing to cook is Thanksgiving dinner, so who am I to take that away from her?
We're taking DH's famous garlic potatoes, maybe some roasted sweet potato chunks and 2 pies from the new Aussie baker: Pumpkin with Ginger Struesel and Pear with Hazelnut Crumble. The Aussie's meat pies are fantastic, so I've got all faith in her.
Weather permitting, we'll head back that night, otherwise I'll be sucked into working at daybreak.. or before.

Re: What are your plans for Thanksgiving Day?
This is our first one!
We have been invited to a neighbours house but they're Mormons and I believe they don't drink? I would need a drink at theirs.
I do have a turkey crown in the freezer so I could do the dinner but we'll be having the exact same a month later. I don't think it's worth all the washing up to do it twice.
I'm more excited that my husband is getting 2 and half days off and putting the Xmas decorations up on Saturday.

For the first time in 7/8 years, we're blowing thanksgiving off...can't say I'm disappointed at all, because...
instead, we will be mooching around London with jetlag! Flying back Wednesday night - going to spend a day in London on Thursday before heading up North for our annual 10 day UK trip. Will be taking the little'un to Hamleys and looking at the Christmas lights etc.

Apparently my sister in law managed to undercook the turkey, so I'm glad we were at me ma's for that one.

Re: What are your plans for Thanksgiving Day?
We have the children home for the whole week! Our son flew in from the UK last Thursday & our daughter and her partner drove over from Cape Cod Saturday. Last night we got really drunk on home-made wine (2002 parsnip & rhubarb) and dusted off the fondue set and dipped home-made bread in a piping hot swiss-cheese & white wine fondue. (James Taylor & The Who LPs on the gramophone helped with the ambience.) Then a game of scrabble was threatened so I staggered off to bed.
We ordered a load of outrageously extravagant food from Zabars in New York, arriving tomorrow
Then also tomorrow will arrive the local organically raised turkey. Not sure if he's flying over or arriving fully-dressed as it were.
Thursday we'll all be cooking a traditional Jewish Thanksgiving feast including lokshen kugel and sweet potato pudding topped with marshmallows. The cranberry relish is made from wild cranberries picked in the provincelands (Cape Cod.)
I think I'll be ready for a holiday by the end of the week..

Re: What are your plans for Thanksgiving Day?
Since we have been here we haven't ever done a big Thanksgiving feast, we usually try to go up and ski as it is so quiet as everyone else is eating.
HOWEVER this year I am cooking a turkey, like Ian we have brought a Turkey breast and we have friends coming over to enjoy it with us - as they are American I will make yorkshire puddings to go with it and confuse them
This WON"T be becoming a new tradition, I prefer the days it is just me, DH and Daisy dog!!! - bah humbug!!!
Hopefully we will also head to the mountains over the weekend and enjoy some skiing!!

We will be doing nothing, just a nice Sunday lunch and laze about. I detest turkey and I have to cook it on Christmas day so theres no way I'm doing it twice, beef me thinks.

Helping friends with a DIY project! Isn't that usually what you do on a Bank Holiday lol!!!
I was in a shop the other day and the cashier asked me how we celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK (actually she said England but I did let it go..) She was horrified when I said it wasn't anything other there and thought I should try and start a new tradition as it's so important to have traditions and we can't have many if we don't have Thanksgiving... This in a town where the Hogmanay (sorry, NYE) street party bans alcohol

So what are you making??
I bought something at Costco yesterday...pumpkin maple butter spread. I had it on toast and it's delicious! There's a recipe online for rice krispies squares with this spread mixed in...I'm going to try it as my contribution to our Thanksgiving dessert.
