Er, use two? As in, one on each hand. Or am I missing something here?

Maybe...but I like having the middle part as a buffer when lifting out roasting pans and large casseroles. Some of us are a little "challenged" in the grace department. :o

That may be so, but I was addressing the point that some items cannot be lifted out one-handed.

the computer well like i said, i hand built this rig for my gaming use mainly, but as a photographer all my work is also on here and id love to keep my pc if possible, the monitor....it was a recent present (and yes everyone knows im moving - they assumed i could just "take it with me") plus...what good is the pc if i cant take the monitor!

most of my stuff i am infact selling, me and my dad or brother have been going to carboot sales every sunday for the last few weeks to sell my stuff, its been going pretty well!

another thing is money, selling it, i wont get the money most of my stuff is really worth as people are selling things (computers, cameras etc) very cheap due to credit crunch. However, buying it all again might not prove so easy, ugh dunno!

We had been wondering what to bring with us when we move over. Husband said he thought maybe we should leave all the big furniture here and only bring kids toys, books, linens, crockery etc and get everything else when we arrive in US. Thing is we have relatively new leather couch and chair and drawers and wardrobe in master bedroom. I think it would be a shame to leave them behind or sell. Am I being too sentimental and should just leave them here in UK and replace in US?

Hi,
We are moving to the States soon and am trying to decide if we really need certain items, or is it better to buy when we arrive. One item is our Duvets (sorry if that sounds really dumb, but we like them). Is it really worth shipping? We are not sending furniture, or other big items only books, photos, and personal items.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

PS what is the best way to send these?

R

Bring crates of Galaxy chocolate, tetley tea bags and pickled onion crisps

Bring them with you, I can't speak for Indiana, but furniture in LA is utter crap, its like walking around stores from the 1980's. It took me 12 months to buy a sofa for our family room here, and 16 months for a coffee table, and I'm not really that fussy.

The onlt thing I wouldn't bring are the wardrobes as most houses have fitted closets.

Nice duvets can be found at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Pottery Barn IMO sells the best covers and they frequently go on sale - if it's too expensive wait a few weeks and it will be on clearance.

If you want to bring duvets and not take up too much space, how about putting them in those space bags and vacuuming the air out? Works like magic!

And you can't get Vaseline Intensive Care spray-on deodorant for love nor money here. That is my number one request from people coming over. Marmite you can get at Wegmans or wherever, but really pricey. Same goes for Bisto.

Oh I forgot how awful American chocolate is. When I was in Michigan a friend found a store near where I lived that stocked international food and I found a big bar of Cadburys Dairy Milk chocolate. I had to limit myself to 1 square a day though! :o
I guess I should look on that as a good thing. The fact I don't like US chocolate may help me lose weight!

Yeah the chocolate is rubbish, but drinking excessive amounts of Californian wine will help keep that weight on:D
