Tragic for the wife, but she and her husband broke several of the basic "golden rules" of chainsaw operation.

1. NEVER use a chainsaw while climbing a ladder or tree unless you have specialized training i.e. you're a chainsaw professional.

2. Observers should be further away than twice the height/ length of anything that is being cut with the saw.

3. Never take you eyes off the person with the saw if you need to be closer (see rule two above).

Both of them failed to take due care when dealing with about the most dangerous machine that you could possibly buy - chainsaws are responsible for thousands of accidental injuries each year in the US alone.

BTW Mrs P would never consider buying me one for Christmas, ..... I already have one, thank you very much!
