I was chatting with a Brit neighbour a few weeks back as they were coming to the end of a "free hotel" stage and she said if she could,have a do-over, the one thing she would do differently is have a talk with family and friends before she left setting down the ground rules for visits. Explain to them that while they would love to have visitors, the friends/family need to recognize/respect that while they are on holiday, the host family still have work/school/life to be getting on with, so please don't expect 5star hotel treatment. Sounds good, but a difficult conversation to pull off without making it look like you don't want to see them again!
