I know there is going to be differences and that is the reason we are moving. I just wanted to know what was worth taking withus.
Obviously we might as well ship the lot over as everything is substandard in the states.
Or who knows we just might leave it all and start again;)

Hey we purchased a queen sized top of the range simmons 4 years ago and still love it. It was originally $1400, but as the shop was our customer they gave us a deal at $1000. :) Now when it came time to purchase one for Ian this year, he wanted a serta. Why? Because of those damn sheep commercials! lol! (His was a middle quality one, full sized for $700)

I guess it all depends on your criteria for standard of living. There's differences between the US and the UK and there'll undoubtedly be disagreement about what is better in each country.

I discovered today that there's no such thing as anti-run tights in the US. e.g. pantyhose that doesn't run/ladder!

Not of much interest to (most) men but of interest to women...

No the cap does not fit. Infact if you check out the threads, you will see I have written lots of very positive stuff about USA. I have also stated, I would never move back to UK. My proof, how long I have been here. YOURS?

We'll it just seems to me that the original question has somehow got lost in the comparing of articles that we could not possibly bring out with us. Such as washing machines, dish washers, kettles, tv's (oh, there are those converters) cars, how bad the traffic is. School fees, health insurance.
Great big thanks to all those who have advised us about beds. We have decided to bring ours with loads of bedding.:)

So if your intention is set of a onslaught of disgruntald forum members. Then I hope they can see through your some what pittiful attempt. Perhaps you could help with the original question, if you can remeber that far back:mad:

Personal taxes, property taxes, Electric bills, raw food and if you have kids college cost, are all more expensive than in the UK

I think it is fair to say that

leaving cheaply is cheaper in america than the uk

living well is more expensive than the uk

i think america is great in many repsects and I will be very happy when my visa is approved

also - I just remembered - car maintenance in america is a rip-off

oil change every 3000 miles? hmmmm sounds like a racket to me

also with very few exceptions US domestic cars are awful

BUT they are cheap - so I suppose you get what you pay for.

They are made poorly because of where most of them are assembled.....which isn't in the US, but the labor is far cheaper elsewhere. So when Americans think buying a ford or chevy is buying American, they need to really look at what they are purchasing.

And buying honda or toyota......you could be purchasing a car that was made in the US.....confusing eh?

Oh forgot to add......the 3000 miles or every three months.....Steve too feels it's a rip off.

Both Honda and Ford warranties specify 5,000 miles; I guess that it is the same for other manufacturers too. The 3,000 mile oil change is just marketing by the service centers.

Ps. I agree with the comments about crazy Auto servicing 3000 miles/3 months. Jeep in NYC is $99 + tx per hour. Oil change & tire rotate is $108. When I bought a Honda, my Insurance Co said it is a foreign car. I said no, made in OHIO. They said Japanese. I said that’s silly many American cars are made in Mexico. They said still an American cars.
