What to do with my car?

What to do with my car?
Hey guys,
wife will be coming to join me on exmas eve
But, she has to get rid of our car in the UK before she comes over.
We've put it in autotrader, but nobody seems interested in it.
Just wondered what you guys did to get rid of your UK cars before coming over here? Any suggestions appreciated...

Re: What to do with my car?
I got lucky and managed to sell my car to my sisters neighbor. My motorbike I sold on Ebay.
If you want to sell quick, you could try dealers, however, they will try to rob you. You might try dropping the price for a private sale in the trader. Better to take a slight hit than be stuck with it or to lose a lot by selling to a dealer.

But Christmas is probably not the best time to sell a car. Do you have a trusted friend or relative to take care of this? She'll have to sign the blank paperwork beforehand..... so it has to be someone trustworthy.

Re: What to do with my car?
A planned sale of mine fell through at the last minute, so I put it on eBay on a 1 day auction with no reserve. I took a hit on it, but it was cash in the bank rather than leaving the car back there.

I think patrick Hassler (was it Pat?) just had his stolen by a conman. He took a hit on it too but at least it was one less thing to worry about

Re: What to do with my car?
We had the same problem before we came over... only we had to sell two cars. First of all we put them on ebay - the month long auction - and there was alot of interest. However, we also took them to a local private dealer near us, who managed to sell them on our behalf. This means he didn't buy them from us, he advertised them at the price we wanted, took photos etc but only took his cut once they were sold. The good thing about that was we could still drive around in them! Which was handy.
So we never found out how they would have done on ebay.. whether they would have reached their reserve or not.
If you can find a dealer who is willing to sell on your behalf, it may be worth a try. Yes they still take quite a large cut (think 1000 pounds for each of ours) but they had alot more selling power and reach than auto trader (IMO.) In fact, the person that bought my Z4 came all the way from Edinburgh!! And we lived in Northamptonshire!
Hope that helps
Regards Keira

Re: What to do with my car?
Dont know if id sell a car on Ebay after the experience my sister had.
She sold the car dirt cheap (needed the money to come out here for my wedding last minute) and there was absolutly nothing wrong with it. After she sold it the guy who bought it from her called her up saying it had all kinds wrong with it and wanted his money back. He started getting abusive....calling the house numerous times.....turning up on the doorstep...threatening her amongst other things.
Eventually they had to get the police involved to sort it all out. It left her very shaken up and worried for weeks after incase this guy showed up again and tried to do something.
I know this could happen whenever you sell something privately but after that it put me off using ebay for high value purchases/sales.
