scarily enough, there isn't that much diesel...most of the john deere trucks in maine are petrol, as are the logging trucks....and deisel on the interstate, those were the only two times I've seen it sold...

Yeah, but a year ago when I took my Texas test I watched the 16-year-old girl in the car ahead of me totally demolish the front bollard marking the parallel-parking space, then reverse hard into the one at the back, then park at about 30deg to the space... and saw her walk out of the DMV office 20 minutes later with a big grin on her face having just passed!

Having said that, to my eternal shame I dropped the only point in my test because I parallel-parked to far from the curb... and I was driving a VW Golf! And to think that less than a year earlier I could park in a space just inches longer than my car in just a few seconds. Another year or two and my driving skills will have atrophied to the point that I won't even be able to use my indicators. Next, the urge to talk on the phone, eat a burger and put on make-up (I'm a bloke) whilst driving at 70mph in traffic on the freeway. Finally, the need to use drive-through cash machines, fit a gun-rack and wait 15 minutes for a space less than 10 feet from the Walmart entrance doors!

I swear I've heard it called something else.... I'll ask the two people I'm most likely to have heard that from.

Maybe it's the cold temperatures in winter? Somewhere a little above 0ºF (if I remember correctly) diesel "waxes" - becomes sludgy, and therefore useless as it blocks the fuel lines.

Thank you for all your help. We have a short list of 4 cars.

Honda Accord (good pedagree safe choice)
Toyota Corolla (simular to the Honda)
Mazda 8 (looks good)
Hyudai Sonata (the press seem to think it is a good car, very good price)

We think 4 cars are about our limit for looking round.

Thanks

Tiny

I think that's the reason it isn't used here, wasn't sure if some one was pulling my leg, but it makes sense as it really is hardly ever seen around here.

I would think that the Hyundi would depriciate quite a bit, not fancy a Subaru?

Diesel can freeze but not if an additive is used. They I believe though are really to be driven every day and are designed for high mileage drivers so I am not sure it would be suitable for short runs etc.
