It's when you start bringing your own shopping bags that they get really confused!

Shopping and all that it entails is one of my beefs over here. I find it really embarrassing standing watching people pack my bags when I feel like I should be doing it, I tend to walk off to return the TROLLEY just so I have something useful to do!!! However, they usually catch me and say 'That's ok we take those back thank you!' Hahaha!
It's even worse here cos they also take your shopping out to the car and I find this excruciating! Do I make conversation? Do I stay quiet? Do I help them put it in the BOOT? Or stand and watch? I usually end up babbling away about the weather and give too much in the tip to try and make up for feeling like a lazy bugger not carrying my own bags! Also, because I find this embarrassing I tend to talk too fast and they don't understand a word I am saying, so they look at me with that look that people give to those poor souls who stand muttering to themselves in the park. They have installed self check outs now, for the sake of all involved I think I will start using them!

Oh I also answer questions (when I should use yes) with sure and the 'have a nice day' thing is deeply embedded too.

This thread is nothing whatsoever to do with me....I don't live in the US, have no intention of moving there and have only holidayed in various bits of it......but I am sat in work pi$$ing myself laughing at it.
I only have a short story to add.... whilst on holiday in California we were walking past a hut made to look like it had snow on top of it ( all plastic moulded around the roof ) and a large lady behind us asked her husband 'hunny how come that ice don't melt ?'
Paul.

Using a dishwasher.
Using disposable plates (from time to time) and paper napkins at mealtimes at home.
(Having to) drive everywhere
