For those who have wept at being WEP'd any news on "if / how / when" any refunds will be available from the SSA?

A spokesperson for the National Conference on Public Employee Retirement Systems added "since the effective date of H.R 82 [the Social Security Fairness Act] is after December 2023, by law SSA has to figure out a way to pay retroactive benefits to those affected in 2024."

If they have to figure it out, then one should not hold one's breath to get anything soon - especially with Trump making offers for those who don't want to go back to the office to work, to retire early..... less people, longer lead times ?

There is a facebook page titled Execution of the Social Security Fairness Act that is keeping tabs and reporting on the implementation.

My reading has put the 'refund' which is only for 2024 and not prior years will take appropriately a year. My husband will one of the recipients.

+1

My wife is one of the recipients but we expect that it will take a year. Maybe longer than a year now if the SSA loses a lot experienced people who take up the redundancy offer that went out to 2 million federal employees the other day.
