Washington DC - Metro line - Hotels

Re: Washington DC - Metro line - Hotels
Its been a while, but we once stayed at the Embassy Inn [note, not Embassy Suites] near DuPont Circle. It was a quick 4 block walk to the Metro. Breakfast included. [BTW, it is "reasonable" compared to other DC hotels]. It appears to have been an apartment house in a prior incarnation.
p.s. Not their fault, but there was a fire in a nearby underground transformer blacking out the area where the hotel was located. In the middle of the night they arranged for taxi to a motel in Bethesda.

Also, Starwood properties often have special short-term deals if you book on a Friday. Check their forum at Flyertalk for ways to get the best deals.

If you don't mind the 20min metro ride into the city then stay in Vienna or around Tysons Corner.
We stayed http://www.viennawolftrapmotel.com/
It was just a standard motel, nothing great. But less than $70 a night.

I have never used it but someone told me they saved a lot of money on priceline where you bid rooms. The drawback is the savings are during the slow periods at weekends etc. They had a son at Princeton and when visiting him had paid around $70 for a room at the Grand Hyatt a huge saving over the standard rate.
