Evidently you don'r follow the Marriage Based group much...cuz pretty much every US spouce/fiancee who goes thru this morass is 'hasta los huevos' of the whole f**ing mess.

Snowbunny...not knowing your situation it is had to offer advise, but I certainly would have pursued the 10 ft pole option- the bottom line is IT WORKS, and you are together. If that is not an option, do DCF- I have heard from many that it is one of the easyst countries to do that. I still thank God that we could DCF thru Spain a few years ago...hell, we had the visa in 6 weeks, and green card and social security card within 2 weeks of her arrival....now we've filed for her perm green card, and she will apply for citizenship next year. Big party then...not so much for being a citizen, rather for being through forever with Immigration!!

Hubby's all excited since I got my LPR this week but I don't feel any different. He's so relieved that it's all over. But I won't feel like that until I naturalize.

He wanted to go home, simple as. There were things he needed to take care of that he felt could not wait. I had to, and have to, be understanding of that. Yes, I know that AP is available, but it takes at least a few weeks.

It came down to a heartbreaking choice of him doing what he felt he should do vis a vis leaving his homeland, friends, colleagues, because we had planned all along for him to return in January. When I saw how much more appealing the 10-ft pole option was, I naturally wanted to pursue it, but it was apparent that while he was willing to do it, his heart wasn't in it.

Me? I'm petrified of flying, so much so I've had a jet land midway between Chicago and Austin and take me to hospital. My ability to fly well depends greatly on my stress level and flying right now is absolutely going to suck.

I do actually. And I find there's a great tendency for native-born yanks to justify the bureaucracy in terms of national security. It tends to be the incredulous foreigners who wonder how a nation that put a man on the moon can't deal with a simple issue like a change of address, and why it takes years to do what in reality should take no longer than a month.

They will also justify it in terms that it keeps immigration numbers down. If you want to keep the numbers down, it's really quite simple: restrict the numbers using legislation.

Once the natives go through ImmiHell, though, by bringing in a foreign spouse, they quickly change their tune.

Restricting the numbers alone won't work: if millions can stream in over the land border with Mexico, what's a few thousand foreign spouses?!??!?

OMG... it has happened. A cataclysmic occurance, surely akin to matter/antimater reaction. We agree on something!!
The USCIS/BSCIS/ BS/Immigration or whatever their name is this week is the biggest boondoggle in the history of the world as far as I am concerned. They make the seemingly simple turn into the impossible, all the while hindering those people who we should WANT to have more of, while opening the gates for those we should want no part of.

Slightly OT, but I find it amusing USCIS put a paperwork reduction act notice on every form they make you fill in.

The space it takes up is probably one tree a day.

Basically, government says you can bring your spouse here to live if the marriage is bona fide, the spouse is not a health or criminal danger, and you've got enough dosh to convince them you won't be taking handouts.

Shouldn't take more than 30 days and 8 actual working hours for government to process that little lot.

Nothing will work in the hypocracy of immigration matters unless there is actual volition to make it work. The solutions to the issues are really quite easy. What is missing is the will!

Snowbunny - I was so happy for you last week and am very sorry to hear of your current problems.

Do stop to think though - this IS a temporary hitch. You HAVE found each other, it's not the end of the world. As others have said, your health is paramount now, and is in danger if you carry on stressing.

I know it's easy for us to sit at the keyboard pontificating, but think what you would have said to someone else in the same situation, a few months ago. You always have such a level-headed outlook, and give such sound advice to others. Reach for that now, and think CALM !!!!

Not unusual, actually. There is consensus from left to right on the fact that immigration policy is a pile of hypocritical crap. You can watch Lou Dobbs ranting on it on CNN, then flick over to watch Hannity following almost the same rant on Fox. There are certainly some differences in the implementation of the cure between the shades of political thought, but the actual argument that it needs an efficient and comprehensive readjustment seems to be between the people and the government rather than the different political parties in the government.

However, USCIS is just the outstanding leader in the total mess of government bureaucracy over here. It's just as bad in other fields, too. In my previous job, I occasionally used to assist folks to get their social security claims. A year or more many would wait for their claims. This is stupid! There's no argument here about whether or not we should have social security. Rather, the argument is that government has set up a system to say you will be paid by the system if you meet certain conditions. If they meet those conditions, then pay them the freakin' money; if they don't, reject the application. But please don't piss about with it for years wasting most of the actual money in the system through bureaucratic inefficiency.
