Perhaps they are all corrupt - but I cannot vote for any member of a party whose mission it is to:

(1) take away a womans right to choose
(2) support a senseless war
(3) continue to deny gays the right to marry
(4) allow the incorporation of religion into government
(5) initiate the Patriot Act

The list goes on but for me these are the most important ones.

It would take a very vile Democrat to make me cross party lines. For me to vote for any individual that would knowingly attach themselves to the Republican party flies in the face of everything I believe and care about.

Would send you Karma if I could.

I am a registered republican. I registered that way because the repubs own this county, and the only way to have an effect is in the primary, and they are closed to non-registrants in PA.

When we became USCs, my wife registered 'independent'. The first election to come up was a primary, she was surprised and very disappointed when I told her she had to wait for the general, to vote.

Which will make it all the funnier if the reps win :D
Anyway, at the risk of agreeing with you...
(1) Wankers
(2) Can't really pull out now
(3) Marriage is not for gay people. Gay couples should however have the same rights as married couples. There is no logical reason why they should not.
(4) Wankers
(5) Wankers

Actually I thought so too. But Florida cast the deciding vote in that election.

My husband has done similar--he has registered with one party in order to vote in a closed primary. Luckily there is not a rule here about changing party, so he's been able to switch back to indepdent/non-registered or to another party if needed.

For clarification to anyone unfamiliar with primaries or closed v open primaries:

Re: Voting Today

I went to vote straight after work. Good thing I left early for the polling station 'cos finding a parking space reminded me a mall shopping center's parking lot on Black Friday!!

It wasn't much better in the polling station. I was given a voting card and a pen (red, which wasn't any good because the voting card states that voting must be indicated with a black pen so I found one).

I was the 1174th voter at my polling station today. Mr. NC Penguin voted earlier that day, less than 3 hours before and he was the 800th odd voter.

I left the building with a "I have voted" sticker. Leaving the parking lot and getting back onto the main road took as much time as it took me to vote...

For those who keep up with things, Mike Nifong (of Duke rape trial fame) was one of two candidates for District Attorney on my voting card.

All you need is a Supreme Court vote and that will squash any women's right, i.e. abortion without you having a damn say in the matter. The Justices are appointed by the President and unless one is near dying, it is hard to tell when that vacancy is going to come up.

You've described the landscape perfectly.

A lot of these issues are contentious and hard to legislate even in the best political climate. Again, the process makes me more assured that I should pick a party and stick with it. Under the current administration - the political climate in the US has become fear-based and IMO they have managed to intimidate a significant number of their own constituency.

An interesting article I came across today stated that record amounts of women (of all parties) were coming out for these elections.
