visiting illinois

Hi

me and my husband and 3 kids will be visiting Chicago on 3rd July for one week, to check out the suburbs as my husband has been offered a job and relocation to Chicago, has anyone any suggestions of good suburbs for us to visit, we will be looking at properties within commuting dsistance of downtown Chicago, our main concern is good schools for our eldest daughter who is 7, we have between $300,00 and $400,00 to spend on property, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I looked into relocating to Chicago four years ago and all the best suburbs are to the north-west of downtown Chicago. From memory the areas were between Rolling Meadow somewhere to the north of the Airport, out west to Napiersville. South Chicago has a bad reputation.
