School friend of wife's been living here constantly (and legally) for 11 years now -- he came originally as an exchange student. All he ever wanted (and still wants) to do was live in the US. He has applied for the DV every single year from a country that doesn't have particularly large numbers applying -- no luck at all. He's currently in the middle of his 2nd H1B waiting for it to convert, and running out of time! We, who had no particular wish to live here, will have citizenship before he even gets his GC.

L1-A and L2s.
Our second lot of them (you get 3 yrs + 2 + 2) expired last week although the last set of them has been approved to take us to the max of 7 years. Husband actually has his interview at the US Embassy in London tomorrow...he's hoping his passport will be returned by Saturday so he can come home for one night before flying to Bangkok. I doubt that he'll get it though
I'll go over to the UK in the Summer with our son so we can get our new visas added to our passports.
Then we have the *big* decision to make sometime over the next year...do we stay or do we go back to Blighty or elsewhere??????

It really is the best visa available, though! Minimal hurdles (no TB/AIDS, high school or equivalent education for the primary holder only, no CIMTs). That's it in return for a GC on arrival! It's nice that you can concentrate on how you're going to make a living rather than how you're going to stay here.

Isn't it so frustrating that there are many out there who would give their eye teeth to win the DV and some just throw their chances away? Know a friend's mother who threw her chance away, about six years ago, now would give anything to have it back (living in Cape Town and wants to leave so desperately).
