Another great place that's a little quieter than many of the Florida tourist traps is St, George Island. If you want semi-quiet and a lovely beach it's an excellent choice. It's about an hours drive from places like Tallahassee (east) and Destin (west) on small rural roads, which is why it hasn't been "invaded" yet as a big holiday destination.

Yes!!! I think it has a restriction on building heights so you don't see those 40 story condo monstrosities. Supposed to be good fishing there too.

Thanks for the ideas everyone! The beach ones all looked very nice. :) Even if we don't go to any of them this year, I will definitely keep them in mind for later.

I checked the prices for just about everywhere, and the cheapest was Myrtle Beach. Anyone ever been there?

I've been there for a golfing thing. I have to say I'm not a huge fan. I thought it was too built up and too touristy. I far prefer Hilton Head down in SC.
