I'd love to live in the USA, more than anywhere else, but after 8 years of trying to get a visa (H1B) with no luck, and my company not transferring people to the USA offices due to cost, I'm uping sticks and moving to Oz.
Why.....I don't want to live in the UK any longer. I've never been to Oz but as I can't get in the USA and the UK is not somewhere I want to stay Oz it is for me. Hope its nice

If you're looking for other options, take a look at Singapore, had the best ten years of my life there.

If I get the opportunity of a job in Boston, I'm taking it. The weather sucks though... horrible winters. I love Australia - was there years ago. I prefer it to the US - it's closer to what you would recognise as British culture (driving on the left, the food's more like UK food, they spell properly, they have a similar drinking culture, and so on) but, basically, it's so far away. It costs a fortune to get to and from there. I've considered it as a place to live recently, but I wouldn't want to take my missus away from her family over here.

did you not see The Proposition?

I'm surprised nobody's brought this up? Clearly, the better country would be the one with better beer. Any responses on this judging criteria?

Burlington is a great spot for coders and people in IT, beantown for finance and research....but meh.
And the winters aren't bad, lovely and warm compared to Maine...but do they know how to plough the roads down here? do they pluck, the muppets...the pikes in good shape, but then they have to or they'd have to pull the tolls down, those things should have gone down years ago since the pike has been paid off, but it's now a cash cow.

Well, obviously nowhere in the US has proper universal healthcare, but at least Massachusetts has mandated that every working person has to have health insurance and has taken measures to make that possible, which is a start. And I've always found the people in Boston to be friendly, certainly compared to Londoners and New Yorkers.

Hi,
I was only there for a short time but my sis is living there ,everything is expensive not as much as the uk but give it anither decade and it will catch up. The property is really high .
I was schocked how expensive it was . Beautiful country but Melbourne where I was was very much like big US cities .
I didn't like the idea of being so far away at least if i need to go back to the Uk it only takes nine hours .
Also I did not find Australian people to be friendly , the first think that I was asked by more that one was what type of visa i was on , when i told them I was only visiting they warmed up to me a little .
