Thanks

how are you looking to compare the two countries? What is important to you?

NO!

And by "NO", obviously I mean "YES!"

Yet again, you win the award for most pointless, open-ended question Smurtaza. Congratulations.

The first language of the majority being English is crucial to me, so the choice is obvious.

Love it here in the US. Have never been to Aus. so can't really comment, although I wouldn't consider living there as it is too far away from the UK for friends/family to travel regularly to see us and us visit them, but we would like to visit for a vacation. :)

The USA is OK (I live there.) But, Rachel Griffiths is from Australia so it must be a pretty good country...

Well on a scale of 1-10 I'd give where I live in the US a 5, maybe a 6. Can't compare it to Oz though as I've never been there, like Lisa and Mallory wouldn't consider living there but wouldn't mind a visit...

Re: USA - How u rate it?

WOW! Vague question really. It depends what you consider important. I have never lived in Oz (except as a baby, that doesn't count). The US is huge, so we all kinds of weather here. We have big cities, small towns, beach, mountains etc. Crowded or deserted? Be more specific and maybe we can help. On the whole ( and ignore all the moaning I do) the US is not a bad place to live. There are many good things to living here. Great opportunities to make a career (for myself, I struggled in the UK to make it and here I have done very well for myself). I could go on. Be more specific and we can help you.

Speak for yourself - I have no problem finding a job in australia and my salary is almost identical to the US equivalent (although my COL is less here as I live in Pittsburgh -v- Sydney).

Deserted? I think you've been watching too many movies.

Why don't you frickin' move already, since you dislike australia so much? I thought you were going to dubai?

Media and Politics: Supermodel 'journalists' who vomit the shite dictated to them by the Ministry of Propoganda at the White House. There is no alternate point of view here at all. There's right wing and then there's right wing 'lite'. Political debate is focused on a few hot button issues: gay rights, abortion, how the country is falling apart and we need to return to 'christian values'. People are kept busy with these moral issues and the politicos in DC keep stealing all our money. I could go on, but you get the picture.

Economy: It's in the toilet. Lots of stealth taxes. Policticians cut taxes to win votes and then realise that they don't have any money to pay for things like schools or roads. Infrastructure is crumbling and no one has the balls to raise taxes to pay for stuff. Clown Bush has mortgaged our future to fund his nation building escapades around the world.

It's not a fair question, i live here in U.S. and i've been to Austrialia and i love it there. They are both great countries with a lot to offer.

Austrialia is better for Austrialians and America is better for Americans.

I thought of this before. Don't they offer free health service to residents should we migrate? Lovely weather and all.

But for some reason, I'm more pulled in working in America.

Comic Books, of course!

America simply has more and better comic book heroes with super powers than any other nation on earth ...

If the language was that important to me I would be more concerned about people being able to speak English correctly than whether or not it was their first language - in which case I would probably be in Scandinavia or the Netherlands ...

Re: USA - How u rate it?

I'd love to live in the USA, more than anywhere else, but after 8 years of trying to get a visa (H1B) with no luck, and my company not transferring people to the USA offices due to cost, I'm uping sticks and moving to Oz.

Why.....I don't want to live in the UK any longer. I've never been to Oz but as I can't get in the USA and the UK is not somewhere I want to stay Oz it is for me. Hope its nice :)

I lived for two years in Sydney and am now well into my second year in NJ. In my opinion, Sydney beats NJ hands down - not sure about the rest of Oz though!

If you're looking for other options, take a look at Singapore, had the best ten years of my life there.

I'm in NJ, and it's not exactly Brit-friendly! Although Morristown has quite a large UK contingent, mostly working for the local football team as coaches. But, out of all the places I've been in the US, I've been most at home in Boston. Lots of decent pubs (as in proper pubs, not "bars"), the US's only branches of Wagamama, decent public transport, an approximation of universal healthcare and very friendly locals. The area isn't called New England for nothing. :) If I get the opportunity of a job in Boston, I'm taking it. The weather sucks though... horrible winters.

I love Australia - was there years ago. I prefer it to the US - it's closer to what you would recognise as British culture (driving on the left, the food's more like UK food, they spell properly, they have a similar drinking culture, and so on) but, basically, it's so far away. It costs a fortune to get to and from there. I've considered it as a place to live recently, but I wouldn't want to take my missus away from her family over here.
