Re: US hype?
Not all yanks are two faced but neither are they likely to be your best friend for life I have some very nice and helpful neighbours who have done things without expecting reward. However on the whole they haven't got a clue and a lot of the exercised freedoms seem to involve being recless ie. A neighbour of mine shot a buck deer why? Because he could, never mind the fact he broke up a breeding pair that had been settled here. Workmen use chainsaws no H&S legislation, no crash helmet etc. But my dog can't bark because a neighbour swore (so it's deemed to be true) an affidavit saying he barked for hours on end despite the fact he was in kennels 25 miles away. Most have never left the country and haven't got a clue whats out there they think their health system is best because they don't wait as I said bollox!

In the UK if someone is being nice to you there is a reasonable chance that they mean it.
In the US if someone is being nice to you there is a reasonable chance that they can smell your wallet.
Sweeping generalisation I know, but one that I've found repeatedly to be true.
