I seen this before, regarding the handing in, of our UK licence when applying for a U.S one. Now, I wonder that if you are in possession of an International D.L issued in the UK by the AA/RAC/Green Flag etc for the year, at the cost of about a £5, Would they accept that, to be handed in, thus not reliquishing your actual DVLA licence.Anyone tried this ?.Never saw a result before on here.

on a note about the Hep B, i have already had it and i understand the kids have to have it, is it worth getting them it done over in the Uk before going over. I presume we will have to pay in the Uk to get it done and I understand you can get them done for free once in the US by going to the county clinics? Should hubby be getting his done too?

On the question of initial insurance, i have seen some immigration insurance companies that can provide up to 6 months coverage. I know my coverage doesn't kick in until 30 days after i start work so we will need to get 3 months coverage for us for when we go over in case of any emergencies, anyone had any dealings with these specialist immigration insurance companies. heres another thing about lic.. I just got off the phone to secretary of state... sounds official dont it.... they said with the UK lic i cant just have it transfered over to a usa lic.. I still have my german one and this one all i need to do is the written test.and then get the german one translated.... and good to go... so if ur already confused u will be more confused... vaccines.... i didnt have to pay to get them done in europe and here the local health centre only has two days a week open for vaccines

I Lived in Norfolk and they would of given shots free of charge but by the time I knew we had to have them it was 2/3 days before the move so could not fit us in. Try your docs, oh the other thing I found and worth telling you is that in kids healthbook (one from health visitor) the vacinations have to have day, month, year (or did here) my doc had put month and year of vacination which was not good enough so got full print out from doc.

Also my doc gave me 3 months of medication to bring with me.

That's the thing, they can ask, but they can't take your foreign license, it isn't yours to give up....and you can't transfer a foreign license anyway, so would have to take the test and all that anyway.

Canada is different in that you can transfer a foreign license without taking a test.

if you didn't have proof of a return ticket etc, they would void your insurance, and screw it to you hard.

that's not a drivers license, just a permit with a photo and translations, you only need that if your drivers license isn't in English, or doesn't have a photo.

GP in the UK would probably do it free.

As for free clinics in the USA, depends on where you live, some might, some might not, some might ask you to pay all the same....get it done in the UK.
