Exclamation United Flight LHR-Dulles diverted to Boston; Pax freaks out - Al Queda links?

Wow.....news story just breaking....in this world of PC there was no mention of the ethnicity of the woman pax who freaked out on the plane but I reckon she was Asian. She had notes in English and Arabic with references to Al Queda and on board she had a screwdriver (perhaps one of those tiny ones for specs?) Vaseline and matches.

CNN is showing live pics from the runway at Boston where the plane is parked. All the suitcases are spread out on the runway where sniffer dogs are checking them.

I can imagine that the managers at Heathrow in charge of security are running around like headless chickens.....

Also a 12 year old boy managed to board a flight at Gatwick today with no passport or boarding pass.....it only came to light when he couldn't find a seat.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/europe...boy/index.html

I think there is too much pressure on the security staff at this busy time of year.....how the heck can they really check every pax for gels, small books of matches etc (which the woman could have hidden inside her vagina for instance)?

Calm down everyone. It is or was not as originally reported.

No lotion, vaseline, screwdriver or notes. Just a woman who has a phobia.

hand cream, still banned granted right now, but hand cream not vaseline.
you could up until last week still take 2 books of matches on airliners as a nice Welsh F/A on a regional jet gave me 2 books and told me the best place to have a quick ciggy at PHL.

Surprised the 767 was escorted to Logan and not Bangor, guess the authorities thought it was too far away.

also, no offense and granted she still went a little ape on the plane from all accounts............having a note about al qaeda on a plane is not illegal.

but then again, I wouldn't want to fly on the same plane as her neither.

She was 60 years old and suffering from Claustiphobia (sp)...

And we say we won't let the terrorists win <sigh>...

(from BBC)

Nenette Day, a spokeswoman for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Boston, said the 60-year-old woman was apparently claustrophobic and had become disruptive on the flight.

How long's a flight from the UK to DC? Eight hours? I wonder why she became so much more claustrophic during the last third of the flight?
