Under the surface, New York has a desperation I have not seen before
New York is a notoriously tough town and when times are tough its citizens go into battle mode. The recession has hit the Big Apple very hard and it is impossible for a visitor to not see its impact. A few anecdotes from the past few days illustrate just how bad things are - and how New Yorkers are dealing with them.
