UK's radio stations will be restricting live stream access to users from the United K
Noticed this post on UK Nova thought I would post here.
IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR OUR INTERNATIONAL VISITORS (18/03): From the 31st of March, many of the UK's radio stations will be restricting live stream access to users from the United Kingdom only. This comes as a response to PPL's announcement that they will be granting radio stations the webcasting rights to stream to audiences within the UK only. As a result, visitors from abroad will no longer be able to access these streams. Send us your thoughts on this issue today, and read comments posted by other visitors.

So it looks like you will have to use a proxy to access them. Here is an excellent short tutorial on seting up a proxy I also got of UK Nova
. Go to website http://www.publicproxyservers.com/page1.html
This is one of the sites I use - there are many others.
2. Find a server based in the UK. Only use ones with an IP address (not names).
Make a note of the number (IP address) and the port number. You now need to test the server.
3. Open MS-DOS prompt (Start->Run). Type 'cmd' and press enter.
4. Type 'ping ' then the IP address then press enter e.g ping 62.190.127.113
This will test the server 4 times. What you are looking for is a 0% loss and a low number for the average time. A good number is under 100ms although this will depend on how far you are from the UK as the data has to travel further.
5. Assuming you have found a good server now open RealPlayer. These insctructions are for version 10.5 but it will be the same in other versions (possibly in another place though).
6. Go to 'Preferences' from the 'Tools' menu.
7. Select 'Proxy' from the left hand menu. Select 'Change Settings' from the 'Media Browser Proxy Settings' area.
8. Select 'LAN settings'. Tick box 'Use a proxy server for your LAN' and then click 'Advanced'.
9. Type the IP address in the box for HTTP and type in the port number from earlier. Click 'OK' 4 times to close all dialogue boxes.
10. That is it. Now when you click the link to play something from the BBC website it will now pass the data through the proxy server (which is in the UK) and the BBC will assume you are there as well.

Just as a word of warning, be careful using public proxies.
They have the ability to log all of your usernames/passwords etc when going via them. So make sure not to use them when accessing other sites (banking etc).

Anyone have any more info on this and how widespread it will be ?
The PPL ("Phonographic Performance Ltd"- there's an archaic name) web site doesn't give a whole lot of info, or rather none to be exact. For example, is it restricted to music ? Will the BBC be affected ? I will be *very* unhappy if I can't get my radio 4 fix...

Tried testing the proxy addresses given including yours. Results 3 timed out with 100% loss and 1 had 25% loss and an average time of 466mms. Are there any others that can be tried otherwise I am not going to be able to listen although I do tend to listen to Classic FM more than anything else.

Is this free? How "legal" is it? once you have set it up using instructions listed above, is it just real player that goes through the proxy, or does IE, etc. go through it too? Not really dealt with proxy servers yet!
