I need some general information about passport renewal. My passport expired 8th August. I will be going through the Chicago office. Am I going to need a countersignature for a renewal. Also, what documentation do I need to produce for a renewal. The only difference in my circumstances since my last passport is that I am now married.

Have a look through HERE , it should have all the info you need. I got my renewed passport in about 7 days (I was mightily impressed!). However I went through the DC Office.

BTW how do you mean 'you will be going through the Chicago office'? You can only apply for a UK PP through the UK Embassy in DC.

Yep - only DC issues passports. Takes about 2 weeks. easy.

As someone just pointed out, all renewals through Washington. If your photo in the expired Passport still looks like you, you do not need the countersignature. If the new photo is nothing like the 10 yr old one, then you need the signature.
