If you have it set up as beginner, you can't, go into Tools/Options and then Mode, and click advanced, and then on the torrent, right click and hit force seed.

bit torrent is shite for uploading...but anyway, you have to force seed stuff so that it stays open for longer and just leave it, people will then get your stuff as long as it is something popular...you keep that ratio going on nova and you'll either get kicked, or have a delay put in before you can d/load.

You leave the file running after download.

Also:
What are your up/down speeds from your ISP?
Do you use a home router?

I'm using azureus and now have a ratio on uknova of 1.551, after only a week, I just leave it open and running, but I have to say that I have only downloaded some really good documentaries, some Gordon Ramsey (has the highest seeds) and Jamie oliver, don't watch soaps at all so haven't touched them

I have managed to improve my ratio slightly. Am I best to look for programs with the highest amount of seeders or leachers or both.

you looking for things that have high leechers and not many seeders otherwise you won't upload much, so soaps are a safe bet if you need to up your ratio.

Is it a problem to leave azureus open for long periods without a break mine?has been on for a week.

I have a question for Bob. I tried port forwarding for Utorrent. It doesn't work. Contacted my isp and they say they don't block any ports.

So I guess that leaves firwall. OH tells me windows firewall is turned off but we do have McAffee. I don't really want to turn the MCAF firwall off altogether. Is there anyway we can get around this?

No problem at all, Azu and Peerguardian can be set up to check for updates on a regular basis, though because of the memory, might want to restart the program every couple of days so the memory doesn't get to slugged up.

I take it your using a router? because it your plugged straight into the modem, you don't need to port forward.

You don't need the windows firewall on if you already have another, it probably isn't a good idea to switch it off, but you can just let it ignore uTorrent, and use PeerGuardian, which is what you probably should use anyway because it blocks pings from the nasties like MPAA/RIAA etc.

Apologies for deviating from the topic, but did anyone manage to figure out how to get the BBC five live and other blocked broadcasts of the footy working for outside listeners? If so can someone (bob?) explain the port forwarding method again? Cheers.

the port forwarding if for people using torrents to download stuff...not for streaming...and the stuff on the beeb from a while ago was blocked...as for getting online feeds from the beeb or any other channel in the UK, it's all downed to useing a proxy that is based in the UK so that you end up with a flase IP address...and basically unless you want to pay for a highspeed proxy, it isn't worth the hassle because you'll not get decent enough bandwidth to watch anything, perhaps maybe radio feeds.

There is PP Live, which finds streams of stuff online from abroad which is good for sports, but again, often gets sluggish feeds and usually asian commentary.

There are ways to hack your IP, but apart from the proxy method, which is easy and legal, it all gets a bit complicated and errr...very dodgy...and unless your doing some serious naughties like robbing a bank or being a fiddler, there isn't much need into that kind of IP cloaking.
