Default UK citizens touring the US on B2 (?) visa.

Hi all

I have some questions about the tourist
visa (B2?) that I need answers for please.

My girlfriend and I are planning to have an extended holiday in the US, hopefully for up to a year.

I have read the information on the London US Embassy website and am a little confused regarding whether I have to see a consular officer.

My questions:

1) Can we apply for 12 month B2 visas?

2) If only 6 months, can we extend easily while over there?

3) Can we enter and leave the US freely (within the visa validity of course) as many times as we wish? I.e. could we hop over to Canada or Mexico and easily return into the US during our trip?

4) How do we prove funds we have? Can I send bank-statements?

Thank you for any help

Dave

Hi

My sister has just tried to do get a B2 visa with the aim of spending 6 months with me and family. She was refused!!!

I can tell you that you will have to sit in front of a officer at the embassy and will need to prove that you have strong enough ties to pull you back to the UK. They do not tell you how this is in fact achieved. Its all to do with how the officer feels.
I understand that you would only be able to stay for a total of 6 months. However getting a visa does not gaurentee that you will be allowed to stay that long. When you enter the states, it would be up to the immigration officer at the arriving port. He will decide how long you can stay.

I would suggest that when you go to the embassy, you bring bank statements, employment contracts and a rent book or mortgage statement.

Hope this helps

b-2 visa
is 6 months in any calender year and usually you have
to provide details at poe to officer on how long you intend to stay in country where you are staying and have sufficent funds to live on and that do you intend to go home

Hi Dave,
All the advice of previous posts are correct.I have been escorted to a flight back to britain when re-entering the states from Mexico even though I still had 4 months left on my visa.It all depends on what mood the immigration officer is on on the day as I have been able to stay in the states for 2 weeks after coming back from Mexico . At times of high alert in the states they can cancel all use of b2 visas as they did after 9/11.I had to give the contact number and address for my fiance who was then responsible for me while I was in the country and he only allowed me to stay for 10 days after a long discussion.Bank statements are good ,in fact have everything involved with your application on you.One thing I will say is that it never helps to get annoyed with the immigration officer at the p.o.e. ,that kind of seals your fate
