Post Two-dollar bill gaining interest

http://money.cnn.com/2006/11/06/news...reut/index.htm

America's little-used $2 bill, which occasionally turns up in birthday cards and souvenir drawers, is on a roll.

From Mom-and-Pop retailers to strip club owners, the bill is shedding its play-money image and turning up in more and more wallets.

Well, I had no idea there was a $2 bill! I still feel as if the $ is like play money!

They are doing - well trying to make the coin more popular with the collectors series - this and the state quarters is great for the treasury as people collect them so they get taken out of circulation!

I just wish they'd do away with the damn penny...sum up the entire purchase, and round up or down to the nearest nickel. They did it in all the US bases in Europe 25 years ago and it worked great. No more ashtrays full of pennyes in the car, jugs full of'em at home...

Also, taken from the CNN article

"At year-end 2005, there were $8.6 billion $1 notes in circulation, and $3.26 billion in $1 coins, federal statistics show."

so apparently there is 1, 1 dollar coin for every 3, 1 dollar bills?

I think thats nonsense

I have some $2 bills lying around at home somewhere, along with a $5 that has red ink.

Get rid of penny, annoying. Please please NO, to $1 coin, I hated that bloody £1 (Chocolate money) Brit coin. Especially, when some idiot gave you 19 of them, for change from a twenty.

When they still had the old ticket machines at Brighton station, I remember buying a £1.60 ticket, paying with a £20 note, and feeling like I'd just won the jackpot. My wallet was bulging quite conspicuously after that!

They may last forever, I hate them. During my Feb 2006 visit, I gave a news/sweet shop a 20 for a 55p purchase, girl behind the counter says "Sorry we don't have any £10's or fives", swear they do it on purpose.

Back in 1999, before the new "gold" $1 was issued, I went with my, then, fianceé to a Christmas tree farm in Virginia. I paid for a tree which came to $25+tax, handed over $30 and got change that included a $2 bill, a "old" $1 coin, and a 50¢ coin, plus a few other coins - I knew almost immediately that the owner had given me a handful of oddities as change.

Incidentally, I found this interesting, especially since a proportion of U.S. Currency is counterfeit.

I never think to check my banknotes and stuff.
