Default Tighter security

Is it me or are we letting the scum bag terrorists get a little more of our lives...

Despite the words from the UK and USA, like :-

"The terrorists will not stop us getting on with our lives" and "we will carry on as normal"...

We are seeing... :

** Longer lines - no better security (read very long sometimes because of staffing, not increased security)
** No tubes of toothpaste (even half rolled up)
** Drinks / alcholhol / perfumes brought at duty free or on board plane has to be checked in if you fly "through" a second airport (after openning your luggage in public).
** You now cannot park outside the glasgow airport WTF (horse bolted springs to mind)... even if you cab, you have to haul your luggage the last 200 yards
** Does anyone THINK that a terrorist is going to bring an ID that does not match the name on his easily printed "fake" boarding pass - so why the
EXTRA checks by TSA and why the then "make sure you keep your boarding pass on you as you come through the scanner".... I don't feel any safer

Lets just get smart rather than dumb. We realized after the IRA nightmare that removing "trash cans" from Oxford Street only cuased more litter and did NOT stop bombers...

OK, I'm ranting but I just wish sometimes (dream) we could have some smart security applications (read Random) instead of over-reactionary dumb things that would not stop a flea but can cause a 2 hour extra delay without added security..

End Rant...

This is an interesting point of view (from an ex military "Improvised Explosive Device Disposal" guy) about the overreaction to a bunch of incompetent idiot "terrorists"
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/07...iocy_outbreak/
Quote:"Now we have this; one terror-clown badly burnt and nobody else hurt at all. An event about as significant as the teenagers burning cars down my way - and don't I wish those little sods got as much police attention and jail time. The jihadi threat has seemingly sunk to animal-lib levels."

There should be passenger profiling, that would stop the huge long lines.
What is the point in searching a little old lady after all. It would piss some members of the community off but not everyone would have to suffer.
Isreal's arilines have been profiling for years.

I anticipate this will be a thing of the past once Mr. Terrorist decides bombing the security line during rush hour would kill more than driving a flaming Jeep into a door.

The problem is they would know and adapt. Look at the recent threat that was averted - young mother and their baby with the stuff in the babies bottle! Not the first person you would naturally think of as a terrorist.

Thats certainly true but they should combine passenger profiling with randoms as well.
The world has gone totally mad. OH flying to UK next week and that makes me a little jumpy to say the least.

Agree with that.
See they are going to put marshals on long haul flights as well to Europe so that might ease your mind?

When I say that to my OH he just says 'worry about me driving to work, chances are a lot higher that something will happen to be then.' And he's right.

So true on the driving. My OH flies so much that he has even worked out who all the air marshalls are out of Bradley CT. Crazy travel schedule!
