They had tables set up outside the ceremony room for SSA, voter registration and passport office. DMV can wait.

I can't recall at this point whether I did anything with SSA or not - was almost 3 years ago. I guess I'll start hunting online!

Yeah this set me thinking too! I become a citizen five years ago. I might even give the SSA a phone call.

At least you've got a bit more time, I've been after DH to see where he's at for his UK pension which isn't that many years away.

Wonder how HR have you listed? I believe the e-verify database is taken from the SSA's.

I soon gave up on the phone call idea, but according to the SSA website you need to fill out a form with supporting documentation to change your citizenship status

I'll be applying for Medicare & SS within a few years, I might just wait till then before updating my records.

Same here. I actually went and changed my status with SS last week after not getting around to it for a year and half. It's very easy and painless. Didn't know I was supposed to do DL though...

This may be for another thread, but for those of you with dual, which passport do you use when traveling? I'm headed home at Christmas and this will be the first time I've had both passports.

For my cruise earlier this month, it was just easier to use the US passport, but can I choose the shorter line and use the appropriate one?

You are supposed to use US passport for entering and leaving the US

I think it's state dependent. Some places tie the validity of the drivers license to your status (i.e. 10yrs at a time on your greencard). I don't think it is critical to update it as soon as possible and can probably wait until it gets closer to expiry.

That's what I did. When the DL was up for renewal, I changed status then. I did the SSA thing soon after I got the passport done. In both cases, it is very easy to do.
