You're supposed to change your status from LPR to USC with them (and the DMV). If you ever have reason to collect SS benefits, you'll be in their system as a USC and unlikely to experience delays. If nothing else it's useful extra proof of your citizenship should you loose the Natz certificate or passport.

I soon gave up on the phone call idea, but according to the SSA website you need to fill out a form with supporting documentation to change your citizenship status

This may be for another thread, but for those of you with dual, which passport do you use when traveling? I'm headed home at Christmas and this will be the first time I've had both passports.
For my cruise earlier this month, it was just easier to use the US passport, but can I choose the shorter line and use the appropriate one?

I think it's state dependent. Some places tie the validity of the drivers license to your status (i.e. 10yrs at a time on your greencard). I don't think it is critical to update it as soon as possible and can probably wait until it gets closer to expiry.

That's what I did. When the DL was up for renewal, I changed status then. I did the SSA thing soon after I got the passport done. In both cases, it is very easy to do.
