Thought I'd share some good news.
So that I'm not someone that only comes here when things aren't going well, in light of my last thread I thought I'd share some good news with you all.
This week has been pretty good to me. It started with getting an email from the company/job I really want asking if I was still available as they have a big new project coming in July and were checking in with their "A-List Candidates", they will be recruiting in the next few months and sound keen so fingers, toes, arms and legs crossed! Also, my wife secured another job this week to tie us over, so has told me to concentrate on job hunting rather than taking some menial job just for the sake.
Finally, after getting refused last yr for a credit card, I had a letter from Capital One saying I was eligible for one so applied online and voila, I have been approved for a $500 credit card with no annual fee, with the credit limit increasing after 5 months of on-time payments. The APR is 25% but I only plan on using it for small internet purchases that I can pay off right away so that's not a big deal. The same day my wife got a letter from Capital One too, pre-approving her a 0% card (she has a good credit history).
So I thought I'd share some good news with the good people here who have supported me since joining, have a great weekend!

Congratulations on the good news. I am keeping my fingers crossed for your job possibility in July. .... Meanwhile there are no doubt other possibilities out there for you.
I am sorry to hear that you have a credit card .... because a year from now your mailbox will be filled up daily with offers of credit cards and loans that you will then be qualified for.

Condolences accepted sir! Yes it's good as now I can at least begin to build some credit rating. I guess a mailbox full of junk is a small price to pay to actually being able to buy things and get credit.

That's good to hear that things are starting to turn around a bit for you. It's truly crap when everything seems to be going wrong.

Getting that first credit card does indeed feel like rolling a 6 to start the game.

Congrats.
I have the same capital one card, but started on a $200 limit, automatically increased after 6 months paying on time - good card with free access to basic credit reporting too

This is awesome news! I hope you get the job and get that credit score up!
Now do you get one $500 bottle of wine or 500 $1 'Honest Nutek' brand bottles of moonshine to celebrate?
Also please do share how the in-person interview goes! if you need any tips on curve ball questions like 'Did you suffer a head injury or something?' (i kid i kid), I've had my fair few this month
