Here in certain parts of Atlanta where I live, these signs are NOT allowed by law. Even Realtors signs are not allowed. It's funny, on one signed of a street (another county) they might be and you'll see them competiting for the visual space.
Some people, who know the law and have nothing better to do, take them down and disgard them. My wife (a realtor) has had the signs removed within 10 mins of pitchin them !!
Does your town have a similar law? A lot of people don't realise it and here in Atlanta it got so bad with hundreds of signs, that were never taken down, they passed a law to stop it..

A: In most locations these are illegal signs. Some cities have zero tolerance and remove these signs. Many sign sharks leave these signs alone, especially if they look non-commercial and relate directly to the immediate neighborhood. Also, these sign typically are only up from Friday through Sunday. The major difference is that these are not commercial enterprises, but simply a neighbor trying to get rid of some junk that another neighbor may need. For these reasons, CAUSS does not promote the removal of these signs. Lost pet signs are in the same category"

This morning we had a garage sale, hubby & I sat out all morning waiting for people to come along, we put out 5 signs. It was really slow, which we put down to it being a Sunday & most people around here do them on Saturdays.
We were packing up & hubby went out to collect the signs & came back with one. Some bastard had nicked the rest! It really pissed hubby off & I tried to make light of it to him as he has some exams to do this afternoon (he's taking them right now) & I didn't want him thinking about it & not the tests.
I suppose people will nick anything that they would normally have to pay for, but one didn't make sense, it was a big cardboard box. So altogether they nicked 2 spare roof tiles (being used to keep the signs from blowing away) & 4 signs. We thought maybe they blew away, but no way, 2 of the signs were staked into the ground about a foot down.
The stupid thing is, they have our address written on them, so whoever nicked them will either have to paint over them or somehow cover them up. It just really irritates me, I hate thieves. We bought proper signs so we could use them over & over again. We won't be wasting our money buying new ones.
On the plus side, we made $72.75, which will pay a bill.
