Thanksgiving Dinner

Re: Thanksgiving Dinner
Canned nut roast? Perish the thought. When I was a vegan, I stuffed a good big pie pumpkin with well-seasoned bread stuffing, roasted it thoroughly, and served it with my usual accompaniments... mashed potatoes, Italian green beans cooked with tomatoes, garlic, and oregano, spicy cranberry chutney, and fresh bakery bread with vegan herb "butter". Gravy for the spuds is not difficult; you make a good couple of caramelized onions and whiz them in the blender with some poultry seasoning and a dash of soy sauce, then make a sort of sauce with flour on the white sauce principle.
We are no longer vegan, but I'm doing exactly the same thing this year with a nice 24-pound turkey (leftovers!!).
Sir Eccles, according to my diabetic brother the secret to reversing diabetes (T2) is to overcome insulin resistance through frequent and significant exercise, and to know what spikes your blood sugar in the first place (which can only be done by using your glucose meter after you eat). If the in-laws are testing properly, they'll soon find out whether the regimen is good for them.

In economy class, they will do a nice little plate with turkey and mash and stuffing and a bit of cranberry sauce, with a roll and dessert, plus (hooray for BA) an extra helping of booze, with a smile. This was on the homeward run from Heathrow to Houston on Thanksgiving Day two years ago, incidentally.

Hopefully the prime rib in a nice little pub type place in Winter Park Colorado. Closest I've come to a proper country pub over here, complete with stone fireplace, roaring fire and dartboard. Suspect we may be spending quite some time there as they haven't had any decent snow yet...

We get whatever sister in law makes, usually Turkey and all the rest of it, and some awful chicken bake dish that she insists I try every year. I take the dessert, so it'll be Cheesecake.

We had our Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday. Had the inlaws round and made roast turkey and the works. Was really good (of course, I made it! )

Going out to eat for Thanksgiving for the first time. Buffet style stuff and a nice little restaurant. Expecting it to be full of old people.

Don't count on it. My daughter, her hubby and the three kids are going into NO for Thanksgiving dinner at a lovely buffet. They are far from old.

Re: Thanksgiving Dinner
Doing individual beef Wellingtons. There's no point in doing a turkey or even a turkey breast roast for just three of us. Dessert might be a sherry trifle or chocolate mousse.

Turkey, roast potatoes, sage and onion stuffing, baked sweet potatoes, carrots, parsnips, broccoli, bread sauce, cranberry sauce, gravy. We're also having Christmas crackers to pull as my parents are here visiting and so it'll be like Christmas dinner with a nod to Thanksgiving
