Friends of the family finally took pity on us and invited us over for TG dinner. I have been asked to contribute a side and a desert so I'm taking over some vegetables that haven't had either soup nor marshmallows added and an apple pie.
This year since I have a normal job (broke loose from the slave trade that is retail) we both have a 4 day weekend

Pumpkin pies are easy and almost impossible to screw up. Go ahead and use the canned pumpkin, the pies actually turn out better, IMO. I'm making two, one for everybody and one for my brother to take home. It's his favorite and I don't want him to do anything stupid, like delude himself into thinking he wants to get back together with the sadist, just because he didn't get enough pie.

I made pastry today (for sausage rolls), and put some in the freezer for the pies. I'm not sure whether to follow the recipe on the can or the one from joy of baking which to me sounds much nicer. http://www.joyofbaking.com/pumpkinpie.html

Anyhoodles, on the pumpkin pie, there a million variations but the best tasting ones are those that use cream and light brown sugar.

Oh, and for those of you so inclined, sweet potato pie is actually better than pumpkin pie but not as popular for some reason. It seems to be more of a tradition in black families.

You might live to regret saying that, and I'll end up on your pet peeve list!
Better go with the joy of baking one then! I don't think they are quite so fussy as your lot, but usually my husband's Grandma makes them, but she passed away a couple of months ago
It all depends on your family, if I try to change up anything from the way my Mom used to make it they flip their wigs. Which is actually funny because they were all too lazy to learn her recipes but now that she's gone act like they couldn't possibly eat anything else. ![Roll Eyes](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)

We both took the whole week off and are flying down to stay with the girls on Cape Cod. DD has been keeping us updated with dispatches from Miss Scarletts Farm. Apparently the turkey has taken her last trot around the farm and is ready to be picked up tomorrow. So all we need is a case of wine and we'll be set for the week.

It's hard when someone is gone, someone that made the effort to cook special things for those that they loved. I'm sure your pies will be superb.

This Thanksgiving like every Thanksgiving I am just going to have a quiet day with my dad. Sad I know but thats what I am doing.

Ahh that makes two of us, Cindy. One more Thanksgiving and one more Christmas. But he is there in spirit I like to believe.
Having a quiet Thanksgiving again this year. Daughter, her hubby and our granddaughter will be here and Jim is back in NY for the holiday. Usually turkey, mashed, stuffing, cranberry sauces, brussel sprouts, turnips and corn for dinner. Apple pie for desert with ice cream.
Our other Thanksgiving with my sister and her hubby was yesterday. I cooked a beautiful prime rib with baked potatoes and asparagus with hollandise sauce with a from stratch German apple cake for desert.

Off to the Oregon coast tomorrow. Rented a house on the beach and two sons and their families, us and daughter-in-laws parents who we get on well with, will have 5 days of food and booze. That's is the 90 mph winds forecast with the rain don't wash us into the sea. Might be some shopping and casino thrown in plus the Civil War football game.

My husband is working Thansgiving day, as well as Christmas Eve, Day and Boxing Day, so, I will be spending both holidays with his parents.
