Default Texas Seceding Petition

What would happen to anyone in the process of adjustment of status should Texas successfully secede?

+1 There's no legal way for them to secede. They're just posturing.

If all those 20 states actually do secede, BE will have to create a heck of a lot of new forums and there'll be new moderators etc. needed. Although come to think of it, your average Brit would be better of going to Australia than some of those pissant red states.

Texas is one of the few southern states that doesn't receive more federal money than it gives (thanks oil!).

However, most of the other states that want to secede would find it a bit harder on their own:

In recent years Texas has received more dollars than it gave, main,y due to stimulus cash and defence spending. Take all of that put of the equation and it will be better off by some $20Bn a year...possibly more if it brings back sale very and drops Medicare etc...

I've looked at the names on the petitions. Not only have a few people voted on every petition (or at least the disparate ones I checked), but most of the names on each state's petition don't even live in that state!

More a tool for political noise than serious requests.

Point of clarification - no states filed petitions. The petitions were filed by citizens groups, not by the states.

Some people have too much time on their hands and are in search of a life.

Is it really such a bad idea? The USA is an awfully big country with a lot of disparate lifestyles. I think California would be better off as a separate country.

Let Texarse secede. It'll mean the average weight in the US will drop by 100lbs and good luck to them forming a military to tackle the illegal immigration problem.

It's divide and conquer. If they secede they'll be back as a colony before you know it.

Is it the work of our resident Texan village idiot (who's been conspicuously absent the last week or so...)?

Every few years, Quebec puts forth a referendum to secede from Canada. Once, in the early 80's IIRC, the Canadian Supreme Court said sure... go... but you have to pay - in full - your share of the national debt beforehand. Quebec is still one of ten!
