Default Tax deductions on moving expenses

Hello,

So I am moving from Australia to Chicago next month and to be on top of things I am compiling a list of everything that can be tax deductible. So far I have the following in my list:

- Air fare
- Lawyer fee to process my wife's visa
- Lodging expenses while I have sold everything

I am not shipping anything. Can I deduct application fee on a rental apartment?

There's not much point if you don't have a visa.

I don't understand how legal fees for your wife's visa can be tax-deductable.

Nor do I understand how the costs other than legal fees for obtaining a visa can be tax deductable.

I was making an oblique point that, based on the scattered posts the OP has made here on BE, he doesn't appear to have even started a visa process much less have a visa, and yet he seems to think he'll be arriving in the US next month to start work. So all this planning is, at best, extremely premature.
