I once had a banana confiscated when I was trying to board a flight to Newark at Manchester Airport.

[quote=onthepunt;8763924possibly some "adult" entertainment.. again, nothing illegal but the sort of stuff you wouldn't want your mum finding under your bed, let alone a stranger!

[/quote]

Heck, a stranger finding that on my PC or under bed wouldn't have made me bat an eyelash. Now my mother? No way.

I didn't realize you could bring cheese in . Is it O.K. ? Or did you just . " get away with it " ?

No, it is apparently OK, as long as it is all sealed up. I have done it more than once and I wrote it right there on the customs form each time -- no attempt at concealment. I had been told by someone that they did this and it was within the rules -- and they were right!

Brilliant ! I am going back on the 24th, I will be sure to stock up on a nice big chunk of cheshire. What about sealed bacon or sausage ? Is that a no no ?

Thanks, made my day.

Because I'd rather go without Jaffa Cakes than have the hassle of having someone go through my two heaving suitcases.

Also I am taking electronics, Laptop, Nintendo DS and a hard drive.. I plan on taking all this in my hand luggage as I don't want them pinched or smashed about, but am I going to have to boot up my laptop or show them whats on the hard drive? I'm certainly not taking anything illegal but I have personal documents, mp3s, videos and photos on there (I wouldn't want someone snooping through my PC at home) and possibly some "adult" entertainment.. again, nothing illegal but the sort of stuff you wouldn't want your mum finding under your bed, let alone a stranger!

Cheers for any help, you guys have already been a great help and my time as a student in the States is just about to finally begin
wtf is it your planning to study when all you can think of taking is jaffa cakes, computer games and scud films?

...even if you could, sealed or unsealed, would you even want to eat any meat after it being unrefrigerated for hours on end?!?!

Off to Sainsbury's to stock up.....

Yes, that's the way I understand it too...packaged food products are basically fine. Cheese will last for weeks out of the fridge. I've taken chocolate bars, bags of nuts etc. on the plane, and sent an energy bar in the post, clearly labelled on the declaration.
