Unless you're thinking about hiking into the Canyon, then 2 days is more than enough, as there isn't much to do, although it is well worth the trip. It will be pretty hot that time of year also. Vegas isn't that far away, but of course if she is 19, that rules out casino hopping and drinking, i.e. 99% of the fun to be had there. Phoenix isn't that far away either, but once again, the heat will be pretty tough in july.

Well if you like history and stuff, going to the seat of power in this country might be an idea. Yup, Good Ole DC. Lots of stuff to see there!! Take a tour of the FBI building, drive down to Virginia to see the CIA, (just drive by, don't sit and take photos OK- HINT). Lots of stuff to do in DC.

I agree - we are about to do Vegas, GC, monument valley and four corners. Couple of days more than enough at the Canyon - and the hotels arent expensive - they arent especially good either!!!

Having lived in dowtown Chicago for several years ... I totally agree. Just don't crap in the road, the locals don't like it.

Great shopping and nightlife, wonderful downtown area to wander thru (we've all seen those bridges in a 100 movies), Sears Tower/Hancock Building, Lake Michigan Beaches and boat excursions, Navy Pier, Field Museam, Museam of Science and Industry, Shedd Aquarium and the one single most important cultural event: A lazy afternoon ball game at Wrigley Field watching the Cubs.

Another possibility is Florida - we could drive there - but I think they're a bit old for Disney, and beaches get old after a day, especially as Daughter 1 is very fair-skinned and burns in a snap.

Can anyone suggest an 'interesting' short break (4 or 5 days?) destination that would not take days to get to from Arkansas? Daughters 1 & 2 would enjoy a bit of shopping, eating out and sightseeing. Parents would be glad just to get through those few days without too much fighting ..... ;)

A KITKAT - Well someone had too.

Colorado's got some great mountain if you like out doors stuff not sure you can still ski or ride in July as they have already closed down 8 slopes already but it has been known in the past.

19 its going to be hard for her if she frequents the pubs back home in the UK, they card like crazy out here.

Great holiday. Watch Vegas Vacation before you go and try to fit in a tour of the Hoover Dam.

Hubby loves monument valley, we spent hours driving around trying to find the Mexican Hat. Death Valley is worth a visit.

DC is great, loads to do. All those museums, monuments, Arlington Cemetery and much more.

Years ago we were trying to find the Pentagon Mall, followed the signs and found ourselves in THE PENTAGON car park. Bet we wouldn't get that close today.

You mean White Sox surely.

PS Actually, I prefer the Cub's Wrigley Stadium ... had a lot of character. Watched a couple of games there ... White Sox v. Cubs.
