Just a thought …

If you can, try visiting the Gateway Arch in St. Louis; there’s a very interesting “how the west/America was won� style museum too – underground near where the line for the Arch begins. I loved going up the Arch and liked the swaying (only a light wind, but the top of the Arch does sway a bit back and for). The observation deck, the very last piece added to join the two arch arms together is quite small, the windows are just big enough to take in the views on each side of the Arch. There’s plenty of parking space along the banks of the Mississippi (on the Arch side).

The way to the top is a bit tight – weird trams comprising what I would describe as wee cabins joined together like caterpillar or worm sections that climb together up inside the Arch, there’s a leveling mechanism that makes clicking noises like a loud but slow cricket insect to keep each cabin horizontal. Great fun, also a good way to make new friends - you tend to get to know the people in your cabin – you spend five minutes or so staring into each other’s faces!

If you enter Arizona on I 40, stop off and see the Grand Canyon. Then turn left at I 17 and visit Sedona. Take I 17 to AZ 101, and welcome to Scottsdale.
