Default student work and AOS

Hi
I feel that I am in a catch 22 situation. Hopefully somebody can help me clarify a few things.

Background: I am in the US as a student in J1 status. I am not subject to 212e(2 year HRR). I am working on-campus as a teaching assistant(that provides a salary, tuiton waiver and health insurance). Under the J1 visa regulations, such on-campus work is alowed without an EAD.
Now I am getting married to an USC. As far as I understand the procedure, as soon as I file for AOS(I-485) my J1 status expires. Thus I would need an EAD to work. Of course as AOS candidate I can apply for an EAD but that takes 2 month.

The question is: Do I have to quit my teaching job when I file for AOS, apply for the EAD, then wait 2 months(without income) before I can work again?
Not only is this a hassle but also impractical. I can't just excuse myself from my class and tell the students to take a 2 month vacation during the semester ;-)

Maybe someone could tell me if I missed something or if that's how it is going to be.

I'd appreciate any help or clarification in this matter.

Thanks
