Most houses here in the UK have double glazed windows but this is a country where there are no extremes in climate like there is in America....sometimes in the UK a day in January can be warmer than a day in June. Would ordinary double glazed windows not suit the American climate extremes then? I like the way they have shutters or metal gratings over the windows on the Continent.

Although it can be well below zero F here in the north east during the winter months...we can also have days in the 70/60's. It's a strange sight to see 15 ft mounds of snow and people walking around in tee shirts...some even wear shorts.
