Hi folks,
On my SS card it's mentioned that "Valid for work only" - just wondering when I change my employer whether I have to apply for a new card/number?
- I'm on the E3.
Thanks

What the legend means is that your SS card is only valid for employment WITH an EAD or appropriate immigration status (like E-3).
You keep the same number for life. When/if you become a PR, you can get a card with no legend on the front, which usually means you are authorized to work for any employer.
A card with no legend, without an underlying appropriate immigration status, does not give you permission to work though (for anyone who has one when they 'shouldn't').

To be fair, you have to include the whole quotation.
