Yup, My Brother-in-law (American) found it hilarious when he first spotted it. Even going so far as to get me can of the Heinz stuff for a birthday present.

I've yet to find him any Brains Faggots to get him in return (one dish I haven't seen on this side of the atlantic)

I have a microwave recipe for spotted dick - much easier than the long steamed way, and tastes good - if anyone's interested, I'll try and dig it out and post it here for ya?

Here's the recipe . . . enjoy !!

Microwave Spotted Dick

4 oz margarine
4 oz sugar
1 small egg
6 oz SR flour
5 – 6 Tabs milk
Handful of sultanas and currants
(Raisins if you’re in the US)

Method
1. Grease a 1.5Qt ( approx 2 pint) Pyrex glass bowl
(I put a plastic sandwich bag over my hand dig into the margarine
and grease the bowl by hand then peel off the bag inside out and
throw it away – no greasy hand or stuff to wash up)
2. In a separate mixing bowl, cream egg, marg and sugar together
Add egg and beat it in.
Fold in the flour.
Beat in the milk, incorporating air aswell.
Add fruit and lightly stir in. (make sure fruit is dry if
you have rinsed it as wet fruit will sink to the bottom)
3. Turn mixture into the greased Pyrex bowl.
Cover in cling film, and pierce with sevearl holes.
Heat on HALF power for 6 minutes.
4. Remove cling film.
Heat on FULL power for 2 minutes.
Let it rest for 5 minutes.
5. Check to see if cooked with a skewer.
If not, heat in increments of 30 seconds with a rest in between until cooked.
6. Serve with custard. Mmmmmmm !!
