Social Security Number & Green Card
Hi
I originally got my social security card when I had an EAD and it says on it Valid for Work Only with INS Authorisation.
Do I need to go in and tell them that I now have my green card?
I work for myself so I don't have an employer that's going to question it but wondered if it was something I was supposed to do no matter what.
Thanks
Lindsey

Whichever it does not matter...You are bound to lose that piece of high quality item as some time ..when you get it renewed/replaced ..it can be without the notation

The only other time you need it renewed, is after you become a citizen.

Yes, if you want a normal card.
Otherwise, you might just wait until (if) you become a citizen.

Do you know why this is? My wife is a permanent resident and has an
social security card that has never had the notation. If she becomes a
US citizen why does the card need to be renewed? I can't find any
information about this on the SSA website.

Not required, but people that have established U.S. citizenship on their SSN
record will have a CSP code of "A". Right now her CSP code is "B", which
means alien allowed to work. Just may save her some headaches down the road.

2. If the prior Numident record shows either a U.S. place of birth or a
foreign place of birth with a CSP code of A, and the applicant for a
replacement card alleges he/she is a U.S. citizen, he/she does not need to
submit evidence of U.S. citizenship. However, if the applicant alleges he/she
is a U.S. citizen and the last Numident record does not show either a U.S.
place of birth or CSP of A (when the applicant is foreign-born), then the
applicant must submit evidence of U.S. citizenship. When a foreign-born
applicant previously submitted proof of U.S. citizenship (that is, when the
last Numident shows a CSP of A), annotate the "Evidence Submitted" field
"Numident has CSP=A" to indicate the prior Numident record was used as
evidence of U.S. citizenship. You must code the EVC filed "Y."

For the Department of Education (ED) matching operation the SSA system

is a U.S. citizen. A school may refer a student to an SSA FO to resolve the
discrepancy when the matching program does not verify the SSN or name. A
student may also contact an SSA office when the Numident information does not
show he/she is a U.S. citizen.

If a student contacts an SSA office alleging he/she is a U.S. citizen and

latest Numident record does not show a CSP of “A, ask for documentation
establishing U.S. citizenship.
