Default SoCal Accountant with Visa Experience?

Hey all,

It's that time of year again. I've got semi-complicated taxes this year because I've been on two separate visas and don't think HR Block will give me the best bang for my buck. Anyone got any experience with any good accountant for taxes in Southern California? I'm really not sure how I'd even find one!

Cheers.

Hi
I use a service called "Your Money Matters".
http://yourmoneymattersinc.com/

They are in Mission Viejo.
It's a subscription based service as they also do financial planning and anything cash/tax orientated. It might be worth a look.

Try Gary Engler (Gary Engler CPA Income Taxes for Foreign Nationals) in Santa Monica. He's very familiar with expats, visa, offshore tax etc. etc.

I used him last year with no issues.

Why are your taxes complicated? Are you resident or NR? Did you claimed a treaty exemption?

I have no idea why people pay lots of money for doing their taxes. In the worst case the IRS will contact you.

NR , two visas and yes one is eligible under a pretty hefty tax treaty. It's a nice chunk of money that I could be getting or giving back depending on how the laws work and I don't want to be caught unaware with what my tax bill is going to be. I also spent some time out of the country without a job and my living situation has changed pretty frequently (don't know if that makes a difference). Plus I can't file online. Only via paper. So all in all, yes, I'm happy to pay someone a couple of hundred $ to sort it all out for me since I honestly don't want to deal with it and get it wrong.

Also I appreciate the link but when I last checked that website was erroring out. edit: it works now!! I'll check it out.

Cheers for the help so far!
