rent +++ (in and around NYC admittedly)

utilities +++

tv wifi mobile and home phones ++

I thought i'd be awash with disposable cash.... erm, not looking like that on my outgoings list....

Well, the New York area is one of the most expensive places to live, so, unless you were previously living in central London it is going to seem quite expensive (and that is using "quite" in the American sense where it means "extremely" ...)

Gas is cheaper, but that's about it

Ah well, at least it will be an experience then, huh? Kids will benefit from good education and we will have a bit of an adventure - it's only 3 years right?!

I lasted eight months before deciding the pain of trying to make NYC work for me (us) just wasn't worth it, quit my job and I have no intention of ever returning. That was 13 years ago, and I have never looked back. With the benefit of hindsight I had taken a job in NYC at below market salary.

Be good to see the City and State, hop down to warmer weather in the winter, Miami, Carribean etc and head west in the summer...... im hoping to see a lot of the US in the £ years we have there
